STOP CENSORSHIP

I do NOT support the bills congress is trying to put in place: SOPA/PIPA.

I am not FOR piracy...but allowing few companies/individuals to control what sites get shut down without a real appeal process is not okay with me.

Feel free to click on the link to send a note to your congressman and read more about it. It's just a quick few minutes.

Managing Crisis with a Plan

Tokyo and Cairo were considered safe until natural disaster or political turmoil happened. It can happen literally anywhere (hurricane, tornado, derailed train full of rocket fuel, etc). Not to be paranoid, but having a solid contingency plan can save your life.

Crisis in Japan

Words cannot express the human tragedy and suffering that's happening in Japan. Compounded with the nuclear power plant issues, the situation is dire. However, there is a possibility this may help Japan in the long run.

In times of troubles, there's great opportunities. Japan is at it's lowest point since WW2 and is going to need MASSIVE amount of help in the form of labor, food, water, infrastructure, etc. This can force a more open-minded policy change for government officials as well.

It may take a 5 years, a decade to rebuild....but they will.

Will you be affected by Obama's 2012 budget proposal?

Here's a detailed, visual, well organized picture of how Obama plans to spend your tax dollars. Amazing to see how much health and social security is spent each year. (fyi, you can zoom in and out every part of the "rect-graph").

The ULTIMATE Chaos Management

For anyone who wants to learn about managing chaos, look no further than Charles Komanoff. He created a model for New York city traffic -- specifically how to reduce congestion.

His BTA (Balanced Transportation Analyzer) breaks down every aspect of NYC traffic that can be measured; from public transit revenue, toll costs, noise pollution, time of day, and so much more.

The BTA model has gained worldwide attention (China, Paris, etc)Imagine if you were able to create a usable model your entire company on a single spreadsheet? Wouldn't that help your bottom line?

The BTA spreadsheet can be downloaded for free on link below.

Unemployment Numbers Fudged??

Believe it or not, the unemployment number is NOT 9.7% as claimed, it's closer to 16.6% in May (most recent numbers).

My bet is this will likely continue for some time to come. For those small businesses counting on employee salaries , how are you going to adapt?

The Demise of Higher Education?

With the costs of colleges skyrocketing, a number of people are evaluating the cost/benefits of attending colleges.

Also, did you know that the more applicants a college rejects, the higher the ranking it receives on the "US News College Rankings". Not what I call a good way to 'rank' a college. The link below has more shocking information.

So, how do we prepare for the future? Or our children? Things to think about.

Yes, you read right...take a look at the link (and the c-span video).

It's sad not only it will likely cause an inflation wave in years to come, but rather there's not a single news outlet that even mentions this.

So, changes are coming to those who have large savings accounts.

Is Twitter the Future of News?

Twitter is a an amazing phenomenon, an interconnected network of people exchanging ideas, news, and information.

According to Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology a single person has influence to determine what is considered important by 'retweets'.

For it's influence, look no further than recent events in Iran and China. Individuals are using twitter as a platform to communicate despite government clamp-down.

Guess Which Country has the Best and Worst Safest Sovereign Debt

I like to gather information on trends that are going on, before they actually happen. Debt has become a dirty word lately and thought this report was a fascinating read. (Just skip to page 15 if you just want the world rankings).

The safest debt is Norway, and the riskiest is Venezuela. As for the U.S., it's #10 -- but was dropped from #7 in the past quarter...do you see a pattern here? (Printing and borrowing a trillion can have that effect)
